What you can brief

Denim you can brief us on

Denim is three decisions: the fabric, the wash and the fit. Name all three, and we place it with a line that already sews and washes that weight.

Styles

  • Five-pocket jeans straight, slim, wide or relaxed.
  • Denim jackets trucker, chore or overshirt.
  • Skirts and shorts from the same fabric as the jeans.
  • Denim sets a jacket and a jean in one fabric and wash.

Fabrics

  • Rigid and stretch denim name the weight in ounces and the stretch.
  • Raw and selvedge unwashed; say how you want it finished.
  • Recycled denim ask for the certificate number and the mill name.
  • Pocketing and linings named on the bill of materials.

Finishes and details

  • Washes rinse, stone or bleach; approve a wash standard.
  • Rivets, buttons and zips your own branded hardware has its own minimum.
  • Topstitching thread color and weight on the tech pack.
  • Leather or woven patches plus care and size labels.

No tech pack yet? We draw it: $79 per style, 3–5 working days, 2–3 revision rounds, one flat price.

Cost and time

What a pair of jeans costs, and how long it takes

We have no denim CMT figure to print, so this page uses the calculator: an FOB estimate for the finished pair, before washes and branded hardware.

Calculator estimate for denim jeans, FOB, per piece (not CMT). Mid fabric, standard construction, no extras. An estimate, not a quote: the factory quotes from your tech pack. Duty and freight are not included; confirm your HTS code with your customs broker.

What goes into the number

$22–40the calculator base for jeans, FOB per piece at 300–500 pieces with mid fabric and a standard build; this is FOB, not CMT
  • Wash. A wash or dye treatment adds about $2.50 a piece in the calculator.
  • Fabric. Selvedge or certified denim moves the estimate up; name the mill if you have one.
  • Hardware. Branded rivets and buttons have their own minimums and lead times.
  • Quantity. Denim starts at 200 pieces per style; the estimate drops as the run grows.

Where we place it

Where your denim gets made

Denim and outerwear are made around Dongguan in Guangdong, which is where we look first for jeans and denim jackets.

Chinese New Year closes factories for roughly 2–4 weeks in late January or February, in every province. Plan the calendar around it.

If the denim fabric itself is the story, the mill can matter more than the sewing line; see Zhejiang for where much of China’s fabric is made.

How the money moves

You pay the balance after the inspection. Not before.

The usual China horror story starts with 100% paid up front. Ours ends with a third-party inspector checking the finished order before the 70% leaves your account.

Watch-outs

Three ways a denim order goes wrong

Denim changes in the wash, which is where most orders go wrong. These are the three problems we see most, and the check that removes each one.

  • Risk 01

    The wash does not match

Wash results vary from lot to lot. Bulk arrives lighter or darker than the sample, and some pairs don’t match each other.

    The check

Approve a physical wash standard with the sample, keep one with the factory, and have the inspector check bulk against it before you pay the 70%.

  • Risk 02

    Sizes shrink after washing

Denim shrinks in the wash, so a pattern built on unwashed measurements gives the wrong finished size.

    The check

Give finished (after-wash) measurements with tolerances in the size chart, and measure the washed sample before sign-off.

  • Risk 03

    Hardware holds up the order

Branded rivets, buttons and zip pulls are made by another supplier, with their own minimum and lead time.

    The check

Order your hardware at sampling, name it on the bill of materials, and approve it on a trims card.

Certificates: ask for the certificate number and the mill name, not the logo. We never claim a factory holds a certificate; the factory shows it to you.

  • From 200 pieces per style. Custom fabric, custom washes and branded hardware can raise it, because the mill and the hardware supplier set their own minimums.

  • Sampling takes 2–4 weeks. Bulk takes 9–11 weeks from the approved sample to goods ready to ship, washes included. Start at least 14 weeks before a ship date, and plan around Chinese New Year.

  • We don’t publish a denim CMT range. The calculator estimate for finished jeans at 300–500 pieces is $22.00–40.00 a piece, FOB, before washes and branded hardware. The factory quotes the real number from your tech pack.

  • Yes, with factories that already sew it. Name the fabric and, if you have one, the mill. Raw denim skips the wash, so the size chart needs shrinkage guidance instead.

  • The factory quotes you and bills you directly. Bulk starts on a 30% deposit. The 70% balance is paid only after a third-party inspection of the finished goods. Our fee, if any, is quoted in writing before any work starts.
