What you can brief

Outerwear you can brief us on

Outerwear has more parts than anything else we place: shell, lining, fill, zips, snaps and labels. Name each one, and we place it with a line that already builds that jacket.

Styles

  • Padded and puffer jackets synthetic fill, quilted or baffled.
  • Down jackets name the fill and ask for the test report.
  • Technical shells taped or untaped seams; say which.
  • Wool coats and overshirts lined or unlined.

Fabrics

  • Nylon and polyester shells name the finish (water-repellent or coated).
  • Recycled shells and fills ask for the certificate number and the mill name.
  • Wool and wool blends for coats; name the composition.
  • Linings taffeta, mesh or brushed.

Finishes and details

  • Zips, snaps and toggles each one on the bill of materials, color-approved.
  • Seam taping only on factories that run it; we ask what is on the floor.
  • Hoods, storm flaps, cuffs drawn on the flats with measurements.
  • Labels and packing care, size and woven labels, bagged and cartoned.

No tech pack yet? We draw it: $79 per style, 3–5 working days, 2–3 revision rounds, one flat price.

Cost and time

What a jacket costs, and how long it takes

The typical cut, make and trim cost, and the calculator estimate for a finished jacket. Outerwear has the widest range of anything we place, because the parts list is long.

What goes into the number

$28–65typical cut, make and trim per jacket; fabric, trims, complexity and quantity move it
  • Fill and shell. Wool moves the calculator estimate up by about 70%; certified materials by about 30%.
  • Build. Taped seams, many panels and detachable hoods move a style to complex or very complex.
  • Trims. Branded zips and snaps carry their own minimums and lead times.
  • Quantity. Outerwear starts at 150 pieces per style; the estimate drops as the run grows.

Where we place it

Where your outerwear gets made

Denim and outerwear are made around Dongguan in Guangdong. Jiangsu is the other option for larger, more technical and structured runs.

Chinese New Year closes factories for roughly 2–4 weeks in late January or February, in every province. Plan the calendar around it.

How the money moves

You pay the balance after the inspection. Not before.

The usual China horror story starts with 100% paid up front. Ours ends with a third-party inspector checking the finished order before the 70% leaves your account.

Watch-outs

Three ways an outerwear order goes wrong

Jackets have the most parts, so they have the most places to fail. These are the three we see most, and the check that removes each one.

  • Risk 01

    Performance claims nobody can prove

Water-repellent, waterproof, recycled fill, down: every one is a claim your customers can test, and a logo on a supplier deck proves none of them.

    The check

Ask for the test report, or the certificate number and the mill name, and check the number with the issuing body before you approve the sample.

  • Risk 02

Trims hold up the whole order

Branded zips, snaps and toggles have their own minimums and lead times. One late zip stops a finished jacket from shipping.

    The check

Name every trim on the bill of materials and order them at sampling, not after bulk approval.

  • Risk 03

A line that cannot build it

Seam taping, quilting and baffle construction need specific machines. A factory without them may subcontract the work you are paying it for.

    The check

We place outerwear only with factories we have visited running that construction, and you can ask what is on the floor by name.

Certificates: ask for the certificate number and the mill name, not the logo. We never claim a factory holds a certificate; the factory shows it to you.

  • From 150 pieces per style. Custom-dyed shells and branded trims can raise it, because the mill and the trim supplier set their own minimums.

  • Sampling takes 2–4 weeks. Bulk takes 9–11 weeks from the approved sample to goods ready to ship. For a winter drop, start well over 14 weeks before the ship date, and plan around Chinese New Year.

  • Typical cut, make and trim is $28–65 a jacket. The calculator estimate for a finished jacket at 300–500 pieces is $35.00–75.00 a piece, FOB, before extras. The factory quotes the real number from your tech pack.

  • Yes, with factories that already run down. Ask for the fill test report and the certificate number for any down or recycled claim, and name the fill in the tech pack.

  • The factory quotes you and bills you directly. Bulk starts on a 30% deposit. The 70% balance is paid only after a third-party inspection of the finished jackets. Our fee, if any, is quoted in writing before any work starts.
